Asda Make Gnome Mistake With Latest Campaign

The big supermarkets are known for their competitive marketing campaigns and price wars and we think that Asda has definitely come out on top with their latest move.

Enter the Gnomes. Asda has created an array of 3ft garden gnomes available in many designs. The original four gnomes – Gnorman, Gnorma, Gnoah and Gnora entered the shelves back in February alongside a competition that ran until March. Consumers were encouraged to share pictures of their gnomes via social media for a chance to win a £25 Asda gift card – just the right amount to buy another! Asda gnomes

Asda has now unleashed Gavin the Gnome shown in a green mankini and flip flops floating on a garden pond. The ad cleverly shows three other more traditional gnomes representing the other supermarket brands in their respective colours.

Gavin the Gnome

Steve Smith, chief customer office at Asda said: “We’ve loved bringing Gavin into the Asda family. He’s cool as a cucumber and we think he’s going to do a great job of communicating a serious message – that Asda will beat not match prices – in a really unique and fun way.”

As well as Gavin the Gnome, Asda has created a kitted out England football gnome named Gnobby.  Football fans will recognise the gnome name has been inspired from 1966 England World Cup star Norbert “Nobby” Stiles and no doubt sales will increase as the World Cup draws closer.

We can’t get enough of these gnomes and think that Asda has definitely been creating the most memorable adverts out of the big supermarkets. After the buzz around their Easter campaign has just settled, Asda has re-launched these gnomes at the pinnacle time to keep everyone talking about the brand. Can you remember Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s last advert? We know we certainly can’t!
