Brands React Germany Thrash Brazil In World Cup Semi Final

As Germany thrashed Brazil in the first World Cup Semi-final this week, Twitter erupted leading the match to become the most discussed sports event on social media so far.

Overtaking the Super Bowl, an impressive 35.6million tweets were sent during the game which included either #BRA or #GER.

We have picked out our top three real-time responses to Brazil’s 7-1 defeat:

3.         A surprising candidate in the Twitter mockery came from BBC2 who got involved with this tweet showing their programme schedule for Seven Wonders of Brazil, or should we say Seven – One-ders of Brazil?

2.         Brilliant Ads has (just as you’d expect) come up with a brilliant tweet to showcase how Brazilian fans felt during the match – starting with kick off and a smiling face through to the unbelievable defeat for the home nation.

1.         Paddy Power has been a key player in World Cup marketing this year and has come out on top yet again after finding this endorsement picture of injured Brazilian player Neymar holding up a 7-up can.

Businesses have been brilliant during this World Cup with their real-time responses to big events especially when Uruguayan player Suarez bit his opponent. This record breaking semi-final shows just how influential social media is and we’re looking forward to seeing what happens in the next World Cup!
