A recent German Burger King ad campaign caught our eye. Based around Pride Month the ad shows a Whopper burger, a staple of Burger King being burned to ashes. Why, you may find yourself asking. In answer, the ashes of the Whopper are then compressed into diamonds, because why not right? The diamonds are then placed into rings which are used in a wedding ceremony between two men from Eastern European countries where gay marriage is illegal and there are no laws protecting LGBT members from discrimination.  Klaus Schmäing, Director of Marketing at Burger King Deutschland has said:

“Guests are free to choose how they enjoy their Whopper in any country– whether with onions or an extra portion of cheese, the choice is theirs. Together with Dima and Alvar, we would now like to show that every person should have the opportunity to freely decide. Especially when it comes to love.”

So, this slightly odd ad is in fact demonstrating that you have the ultimate choice over how your Whopper is enjoyed. This metaphor is then extended to show that, like with a Whopper, everyone should have free choice when it comes to who they love which is further proof that Burger King love to support the LGBT cause across the world. A heart-warming message found in the ad for a fast food restaurant with some interesting ideas towards the point of a burger.
