For one day only, every grown adult’s dream in Bristol will be coming true … a giant waterslide is being built! Park Street in Bristol will be transformed with Park and Slide – a 90m water slide that the public won’t be charged to experience.
This idea is from Luke Jerram, who is mainly recognised from another event he organised – “Play Me, I’m Yours” which saw 1,300 pianos installed in 43 cities around the world that any member of the public could play.
Bristol has been the centre for big initiatives in the past year including several Gromit Sculptures that were designed and placed around the city to then be sold for charity.
Bristol Culture commented: “If last year was all about Gromits on every street corner, this year in Bristol might be remembered for one giant piece of playful art on Park Street as Luke Jerram hopes to install a giant water slide that the public can ride from the top of the road to the bottom”.
Park and Slide is set to fit in with Bristol’s Make Sundays Special initiative that closes the city centre to motor traffic and hosts different activities to bring the city to new life.
It is being questioned if this experience is a self-promotion tool for Jerram but we think that it’s a great idea that will bring fun to Bristol and anyone that takes part in it! In order for this waterslide experience to take place, Jerram needs to raise £5,622 of which over half has already been donated. May 4th is also well placed a day before the May Day Bank Holiday meaning more people will hopefully be able to slide through the streets.
