“Should Scotland be an independent country?”- That’s been the question on everyone’s minds this past week, including ours at apt.
The Scotland Independence Referendum is a bill on whether Scotland should become an independent country, which will take place on Thursday 18th September 2014.
All residents in Scotland aged 16 or over can vote, and the proposal requires a simple majority to be successful. However, many issues have been raised during the campaign including which currency will be used, North Sea oil, health and child care and defence.
This could potentially be our new United Kingdom flag. The Scottish blue has been removed, and replaced with a slightly ‘German-esque‘ black and yellow colour scheme. What do you think?
To commemorate Scotland’s endeavour of going solo, the team at apt have decided to create a quirky “independence kit” which highlights some of the things British citizens will have to think about if the referendum proves successful. The kit includes: an informative pamphlet on (new) flags of the world, a marketing brochure for the sale of Balmoral Castle and a set of Lego bricks which can be used to rebuild Hadrian’s Wall, of course. There is also a bottle of English Whisky and a pack of play money which may prove useful to bridge the gap between Independence and Actually Working out What the Currency Will Be.
The fact that we are unable to vote does not make our opinion void and we don’t think staying silent is best, so hopefully our humorous take on this issue highlights some of the serious issues voters will have to consider. What do you think?
