Retailer Nisa has launched a new campaign highlighting the struggle many people have to pronounce the company’s name. Nisa has found that there are two ways most people say the company name - Nicer and Neesa.
Instead of creating a campaign to teach consumers how to pronounce it properly, Nisa (Nicer) are instead encouraging us to pronounce it anyway we like.In their new ‘You Say’ campaign, Nisa began releasing teaser tweets and posts featuring the captions “We say” [word] and “You say” before the ad launched on TV on 9th April.

After seeing this advert it made us think of company names that are often pronounced wrong – and we found a few surprising ones!
Ikea – Pronounced properly this should be Ee-kay-a and not eye-key-a!
Hyundai – Korean car manufacturers is pronounced differently based on the country you are in, the proper pronunciation should be HYUN-day (-hy as in Hugh, -un as in bun, -ay as in day) but in the UK its pronounced high-UUN-digh (-igh as in high, -uu as in book,) and in Spain it’s often pronounced Han-die.
Adidas – Typically in the UK most say ahh-dee-dass but it should be uh-dee-duss.
Porsche – Pronounced properly should be Porsh-ah.
Primark –Primark is often pronounced Pr-e-mark.
apt – we have a similar occurrence with our business name which is often pronounced as a whole word ‘apt’ instead of separate letters – a.p.t.
We think that Nisa has come out with a brilliant campaign that has been unique to their brand, although they are promoting that it doesn’t matter how their business name is pronounced it still made us look up how it should be said properly – and we’re sure we’re not the only ones!
