Discover England Fund grant application for Compass Holidays...

Background:

The Discover England Fund (DEF) is a £40million fund distributed over three years to support tourism projects that encourage inbound visitors. It was announced by Government in 2015, to help develop bookable product and ensure that England stays competitive in the rapidly growing global tourism industry. Compass Holidays sought £15,000 to expand their GPS navigation app to include bookable experiences.

Objectives:

To secure year 1 funding from The Discover England Fund for £15,000.

Actions:

apt recommended to Compass Holidays that its app development project would be eligible for grant funding from the Discover England Fund. apt then proceeded to develop the project brief and measurable objectives, before drafting and submitting the application to Visit Britain. The application was submitted for £15,000.

Results:

Compass Holidays was awarded £15,000 to proceed with their project and now has a mobile GPS-based app which supports its clients to navigate. Thanks to the grant, the app also goes beyond the original scope and includes bookable experiences too.

Steve Short, Director comments “All the other projects awarded DEF funding are DMOs or public bodies and we never would have expected to be eligible. apt encouraged us to submit a bid, did all the leg work for us and drafted an application that ultimately won. We now have an app that is much more comprehensive for our clients than we would have done without the funding.”
