Brand Me By Christopher Robins

Christopher Robins joined us for a year long internship working on Social Media and here's what he had to say about his experience ... [All copy sic]

Hundreds of blog posts written, thousands of tweets and Facebook statuses posted and many other projects undertaken. This is the end of the road to what I can only describe as a highly valuable and eye opening past 12 months on placement at apt as a social media intern.

There have been plenty of personal highlights throughout the past year. From being responsible for leading projects for clients Contemporary Cake Designs and Lakefest to writing social media proposal for prospective clients; each and every project I’ve dealt with has been diverse and an exciting new challenge to apply myself too. Not to mention the creative environment you’re surrounded by in an agency, seeing your own innovative ideas come to fruition on real life projects and feeling a sense of fulfilment when they return effective results. What’s been my favourite? It has to be the filming day with Contemporary Cake Designs I organised back in January where I’d come up with the idea of re-energising their YouTube channel with a series of ‘How To’ videos and we spent the day in the kitchen producing the films.

Along this educational journey I’ve learnt different techniques of marketing communication, just how important 140 characters can be and how organisations are adapting to the prominence of social media to engage with their consumers/other businesses in contemporary fashion. In addition, I’ve managed to gain a greater understanding regarding my individual traits whilst embracing the knowledge and marketing principles from various industries. Together this has enabled me to understand theory in practice, where my professional strengths and weaknesses lie but more significantly how I can develop and nurture my skills in the future.

It seems only relevant that as I’ve worked in marketing for the past 12 months I end on this note. We’re all brands, we’ve all got individual identities and through life’s experiences we develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge to enhance our personal brand.  Therefore making us more attractive to consumer’s eye or in this case prospective employers and encouraging a greater desire for them to invest in us. Through working with all my former colleagues at apt and their clients my brand has considerably strengthened, obtaining invaluable knowledge and skills that will no doubt assist me when I start applying for graduate schemes. For that, I’ll be perpetually grateful to Angie and Victoria for this opportunity and their willingness to let me flourish in their working environment.
