After the Christmas period you might think that the advert scene would look a little bit miserable, but Tesco are lighting it up with their ‘Prices that take you back’ ad.

The ad launched on January 11th and features a huge amount of cultural references dating back for the past century. Celebrating 100 years of business, the supermarket giant has reduced prices on hundreds of household brands including Heinz, PG Tips, Cathedral City and more, to help the families feeling the pinch following Christmas.

Speeding through a supermarket, the ad shows mods on mopeds, an astronaut, wartime shopping and a roller disco dancer. After press adverts were published featuring the much-loved Mr Blobby, there were high hopes that the character would make an appearance in the TV ad, but to many viewers dismay he didn’t win over any screen time.
