Weird Social Networking Websites You Wouldnt Think Exist

Going back to our blog post which celebrated 20 years of the internet, it made us think about our use of social networking websites and encouraged us to delve into the weird and wonderful world of the more niche social networks. Some are painful, some are witty and some are just weird. Here is a selection of our favourites… And you never know, you may find a platform perfect for you where you can build a community of like-minded people.

First of all, let us start on the dating websites. Personally, I always thought that Uniform Dating was a bit of a niche, but it turns out it’s just the tip of the iceberg. So, do you have a passion for a man with a mullet? What about a woman with a mullet? Well, if that’s the case, then MulletPassions is the dating site for you. However, if a moustache is a must-have, then take a look at StachePassions to see if you can find the one. Mullet

If you are finding this to be quite shallow and image led (I mean, who doesn’t love a mullet), then perhaps you’re looking for someone to provide you with intelligent conversations about trips to the museums, or even their thoughts on NASA’s latest creation?  Intellect Connect is the dating website for you.

However, should your nerdy beau not be the man you thought he would be, you always have Divorce360 to help you with the splitting up process and will introduce you to individuals going through the same to support you along the way.

Next on our list of weird and wonderful social networks is My Free Implants, the networking site where mysterious men donate towards women’s breast surgery in return for photos, videos, messages and ‘everlasting gratitude’. It targets ladies with low self esteem, men with too much money and surgeons who pry on this weakness. Although it is predominantly based in the U.S. there are surgeons participating in the UK. Thanks My Free Implants, but we think we’ll be steering clear of this one.

One of our favourites though, is Red Karaoke. On this community of budding stars you can record yourself singing and post it for everyone to see (just like YouTube, but without the videos of cats). However, all of the good songs are only available if you pay for your membership and there is only a selection of 10 songs if you choose not to subscribe to the gold account. The best thing is that you can use it just like other social networks in the form of an app, meaning you can sing to your heart’s content wherever you are!

There is also a range of such niche communities that it’s a wonder anyone manages to find them. The Bear Club is a slightly tragic website for adults who pretend to be their teddy bears by creating profiles for them, writing blogs on their behalf etc. Pony Square is the social networking website for Bronies and Pegasisters; extreme fans of My Little Pony.  A slightly different take on life is Line For Heaven. This site enables those signed up to the website to ‘get in line’ and work their way into Heaven. All you need to do is upload a photo and your ‘soul’ (image) appears in the line. In order to advance the line; you need to confess your sins, start a cause or donate money to the website (not suspicious at all).  If you sign up to Matchadream you can start a dream journal, interpret them using a dream dictionary, search for dreams similar to your own or discuss them with fellow dreamers. JewTube is an interesting take on Youtube for the Jewish community, featuring videos titled ‘Epic Rab Battles’ (get it?!) and ‘Gamba Style’ the Hebrew Gangnam Style Parody. And finally there’s Eons, a social community for people of about 50+, which comes complete with a life expectancy calculator... Thanks.

Now our list of crazy social networking websites wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t take time out to appreciate those dedicated to our furry friends. For dogs there’s Dogster and MyDogSpace, and while we're on the subject of dogs you must check out this blog about Pugs! For cats we managed to find CatBook, for horses there’s Troton and finally, not forgetting our tiny hamster friends, there is Hamsterster.

So that is apt’s favourite weird and wonderful social networking websites. We look forward to seeing what may be about in the future, but in the mean time you might be able to spot us on Red Karaoke singing our hearts out!
