A Day In The Life Of Abbie Our Pr Account Exec

A typical day for me starts by watching Daybreak while I am getting ready so I know what is going on in the world as soon as I wake up. I kiss goodbye to my beloved cats and leave my house for work. I live in Evesham and the journey can take anything from half an hour to an hour depending on traffic so listening to radio 1’s breakfast show with Nick Grimshaw always manages to put a smile on my face to brighten up my daily commute. I always catch newsbeat on my way which is another good way to get up to speed on the daily news.

As being up to date on the news is so important, one of the first things I do (after having my morning coffee fix) is read through news websites and pick out any articles that relate to any of our clients. This helps to spark ideas for client’s social media and what is going on in their particular industry. Whenever I see or hear anything I always have my PR hat on so that if anything relates to our clients or sparks any ideas I can be both reactive and proactive. I have signed up to a lot of newsletters and Google Alerts so I make my way through those and check them for coverage/and or news.

Food is always on my mind and the thought of what I may have for lunch pops in to my head throughout the morning – I have to resist from the constant array of cakes and biscuits that are always around the office to avoid the risk of having to be rolled out the office. My boyfriend loves watching Mary Berry on TV and is always on the lookout for new recipes and is always giving me cupcakes for everyone in the office to try!

Everybody at apt works extremely hard, but we also know how to have a laugh and every day is different. Whether that be because of what I am working on or because of a comment that I make without thinking that seems to make everybody laugh. They call these comments “Abbieisms” – comments that come out of my mouth which make me sound extremely blonde (and somewhat stupid most of the time).

Joking aside, on a typical day I work my way down my ‘to do’ list which is created at the start of the week from us having a Monday morning meeting. This gives us all chance to catch up with what is going on for each client and what needs be done. Working in an agency means that I have to multitask and work on several clients a day which I absolutely love, one minute I will be working on a festival then the next I will be in beauty mode for another client. My days are filled with writing press releases, building press lists, distributing the press release and then following it up, writing blogs and articles, keeping up to date on the news and interacting through social media. All in all I absolutely love my job and being part of such a friendly and hardworking team!
