Chocolate In Good Taste

With the chocolate season in its biggest swing (besides Valentine’s Day and Christmas), how far would you go to do something a little different?

Go to the hotel made of Cake in Soho and eat the rug?

Get Heston Blumenthal to make you a chocolate playhouse with windows made of boiled sweets?

Go to M&S and find out what the edible straw those chocolate eggs come with will taste like? Let’s face it, that’s why we would buy them. The eggs are pretty uninteresting.

Eat the shoe below, maybe? Yes. What you’re looking at is a shoe; and it’s made of chocolate.

The shoes are being made at the family-run Saffire Handmade Chocolates workshop in Taverham, Norfolk. They’re made to shoe size 3, covered in a layer of cocoa butter, followed by a layer of edible enamel; so you can display it without fear of it melting for years. It comes on a solid dark chocolate base, on a wooden base to protect your surfaces, and the shoe on top.

Why would you keep it? You may want to when you’ve handed over the credit card…Although they say they last up to ten years, they cost a whopping £700!

Personally, we would want to keep it for the ten years, to the day, before eating it; but no doubt we would probably eat it on the bus ride home, the nature of chocolate demands it (or perhaps the female brain chemistry does).

Considering that a real pair of Louboutins (that’s two whole shoes!) cost around £630, we think your dollar is better invested in a shoe that you can wear without it melting...unless you’re a chocoholic!
