Delta Is Set To Take Off With Some New In Flight Safety Videos

Delta
Recently Delta has released a pair of in-flight safety videos. These are certainly not your standard, monotonous safety videos though. Delta has exceeded expectations to captivate their audience from the second they get on the plane. Each version follows the same spiel but the quirky gags and amusing captions are different in both. We love the awkward moment when someone emerges from the toilets just as the emergency exit signs next to them are announced, and the part where a life sized robot has to deactivate itself after the classic ‘please turn off all electrical equipment now’ speech. Delta have even thought about the little details of the signs you get dotted around planes, adding a no playing squash sign along with the no smoking one.

Delta produced their previous in-flight safety video back in 2008, which became popular both in-flight and on YouTube soon after its release. Katherine Lee, a Delta flight attendant became the face of the Delta and is more commonly known by the name Deltalina, taken from celeb lookalike Angelina Jolie. Many people will remember her famous ‘no smoking’ finger waggle, and Delta haven’t forgotten about this. They have included Deltalina and her famous finger in their new video too.

This appears to be the method that airlines are now using to influence people to fly with them. Air New Zealand have recently launched an in-flight safety video with the theme of The Hobbit (it even has a cameo from Peter Jackson) and back in 2009, Thomson released their Bugsy-Malone-inspired video where children took on the roles of the pilot, passengers and crew.

But is this enough? It may get people talking and get their brands ‘out there’, but are people really going to book a flight on the basis of a video that they have already seen on YouTube? For brand awareness this is exactly what the organisation needs and will help to shape it, but whether this in turn will boost sales will be something that only time will tell.
