A new prototype devised by Domino’s and T+Biscuits is currently taking the internet by storm. The ‘DomiCopter’, an airborne pizza delivery service, was trialled in the UK and allowed for 2 large pizzas to be delivered within a 4 mile radius in approximately 10 minutes; in perfect condition, still sizzling hot.
Arguably a faster delivery service than the typical pizza boy style; this flying pizza is proving to be very popular, but is it going to end with an anti-climax like the ‘TacoCopter’ did last year?
The ‘TacoCopter’, similar to the ’DomiCopter’, used a GPS tracking system (which most phones have installed), with a facility to order and pay online for tacos; the drone helicopter would pick up the delivery from the restaurant and fly it directly to you, allowing consumers to be able to order from anywhere!
However the U.S Government were quick to inform the cofounders of this innovation that it was breaking regulations and would have been too dangerous if the tacos were to fall out of the contraption.
Domino’s and T+Biscuits tested their prototype at their Guildford headquarters where no flying permits were required. There are still other issues with this drone however; mainly surrounding how much weight the ‘DomiCopter’ could cope with. Currently, the maximum weight that it can deal with is 2 large Pepperoni Pizzas, so what would happen if you wanted to order more? Families ordering pizza for a Saturday evening might find it difficult to enjoy their nights in without a starter or bottle of Coca-Cola, so would Domino’s and T+Biscuits be able to account for these needs?
As it stands there are no plans for Domino’s to introduce this technology into their delivery service, which has led to others believing that it has simply been a publicity stunt. We sincerely hope that this ‘DomiCopter’ prototype does take off, after all, who wouldn’t want their pizza delivered by air?
