Drone Leads Students To Destination

There’s always a worry when starting at a new school, university or work place. Finding your way around the new building can be tricky, all the corridors look the same and the first day often results with you getting lost; thanks to MIT, Massachusetts, this will no longer be a problem for undergrads studying at the University.

Researchers from MIT have created a set of drones, called Quadcopters, in a SkyCall project that responds to calls made via an app.

Lost students call the drone through their smartphone where it flies to them using a GPS system. The user then types in their phone where they want to go (in this case a laboratory) and the drone takes them to their destination.

We think the concept of this flying drone is a great idea as it stops students having to worry about asking someone else how to get to their destination, but following a flying drone round campus may not be the subtlest of ways to find out where you need to go.
