Eggcellent Easter Marketing The Best Of 2014

Over the Easter break we saw a great array of Easter campaigns featuring plenty of chocolate, Chicks, Easter Bunnies and an eggtraordinary amount of puns! We’ve taken part in our own ad hunt to put together some of our favourite Easter campaigns for 2014.

Since their new campaign started in April 2010 - ‘Aldi. Like brands only cheaper’, Aldi has been launching adverts that typically show people with a branded product and an Aldi version – e.g. Lindt Chocolate Bunny and Aldi’s own version.  The adverts have been a huge success and their Easter advert was no exception. The advert features a girl on an Easter egg hunt who tells the audience that she thinks her mum has hidden them a little too well – as we see her brother in the background picking up all of the Aldi Easter Rabbits. The advert is light-humoured and we’re sure a lot of families were able to relate to.

Cadbury’s Easter Eggsploration

Teaming up with the National Trust, Cadbury’s hosted a National Easter Egg Hunt for the seventh year running. Not only did Cadbury set up over 300 trails across the UK, they created a ‘Design your own Egghead’ competition and an ‘Eggsplorer Scrapbook’ where families that took part in the egg hunt were invited to take a picture of themselves on the trail for the chance to win a family cottage break – great fun for all the family!

The Labour Party

Surprisingly, one of the most popular Easter posts came from the Labour Party. Carefully thought out, the Labour Party scrutinized the Liberal Democrats and its leader Nick Clegg by creating an Easter egg of the party leader. The ‘Easter Clegg’ has been labelled as “completely hollow, melts under pressure and leaves a bad taste in the mouth” also adding in “a free mug inside” with instructions to “store in David Cameron’s pocket” and “best before 6 May 2010). They added in the final dig by saying “Just like Nick Clegg, our eggs melt when the heat is on”.

AsdaChick

Supermarket giant ASDA’s ad this year featured an Easter Chick and a catchy tune to create one of the best 2014 Easter adverts.

The advert shows other chicks, with their birdhouse colours representing the supermarket (blue for Tesco etc.) tweeting to a plain tune – where the ASDA chick, with a green birdhouse, appears to dance and sing along to Funky Town before “You’re better off at ASDA” appears on the screen.

The ad stands out from others and takes full advantage of the animal theme that is appearing in a lot of adverts this year. The advert is cheerful and you can’t help but sing along- definitely our winner this year!
