End Of An Era By Sarah Jordan Unedited

After being at apt for nine months, my internship has come to an end. So what have I learnt?

Nine months ago I came to apt with the attitude that I wanted to run before I could walk. This attitude was not only a strength that pushed me on, but also one of my biggest weaknesses that held me back. I soon realised that to be able to run you actually do need to learn the basics, which the team at apt soon taught me. I have always told myself I don’t want to be just another number in a large corporation, I wanted to be hands on and make a difference. The great thing about apt is that they let you work on real projects. This means you get to work through the whole process and see the final result, which for me was the most rewarding thing ever!

One thing I did a lot of was blog writing. At first I wasn’t too keen on it, I concentrated purely on the facts in front of me rather than the post that I could create and make my own. It took some time to adjust my style of writing but now blog writing has turned into a job that I thoroughly enjoy doing. My absolutely favourite blog has to be the Budweiser’s commercial on Clydesdales Horses, closely followed of course by our favourite little pony Socks. I have discovered that I am magpie to anything involving cars and horses, two of my favourite things, I could write about these constantly!

There are so many skills that I have gained on my placement, many of which I wasn’t even aware about let alone add to skills set [sic]. What is SEO? Surprisingly (or not) even though I do a business and marketing degree, I didn’t have a clue what these three letters meant. Now I can tell you, and can also populate a website thoroughly with keywords, to encourage organic rankings on search engines. This is just one example of the many things that I have learnt whilst being at apt.

As well as enjoying the work, I have also enjoyed the various office outings including the Christmas Party, where the majority of the team paid for the unlimited dodgem rides for weeks after; including me, where I received a healthy dosage of whiplash [sic]. I have also had to endure a whole afternoon of ransom notes after my crème egg went missing from my desk, only to find it on the way home sat on a fence. You will be glad to know though that I had the last laugh and took pictures of the empty wrapper and displayed them for the world to see using my social media skills. And of course the endless amounts of cake, biscuits and food in the office satisfied a foodie like me! [sic]

Finally I would like to thank everyone at apt for the opportunities and skills they have provided me with. I feel that I developed both as a person and as a professional. I am sure that with my newfound knowledge, it will enhance my learning in my final year of university. More importantly though it will definitely give me a head start when looking for future careers, after all nowadays experience is everything!
