Facebook Eyes Up Lucrative Gift Market With Twist On The Traditional Retail Gift Card

Facebook’s new initiative ‘Facebooks Gifts’ has received very little attention in the public eye, perhaps signifying a lack of investment into the initiation. Not so!

Set to launch physical gift cards The Facebook Card will be rolled out gradually, initially just to US users, aspiring to be a “new type of gift card”. What makes this card different is its ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, enabling its use across a number of different retailers; it can also hold separate balances for each company, for example it could hold $5 for Jamba Juice and $100 for Target, both of who are partners.

It looks likely that this idea will be successful due to the big brand support, leaving other companies with no choice but to jump on the bandwagon, and once again become dependent on the Social Media site. Some people have even said that in the future the brand may even establish its own currency! Nobody could have ever imagined the power such platforms could have. I wonder what they will be planning next!
