Paving the way for a new generation of marketing campaigns, animation giants Disney-Pixar release an official website to correspond with their upcoming ‘Monsters Inc.’ prequel – ‘Monsters University’, which is set to hit the screens in 3D next summer. This superbly comprehensive tie-in website certainly adopts an innovative and unique approach to advertising and is highly engrossing.

Yes, at first glance it looks like your typical university website, but monstrous surprises await you! With quirky banners and genius features (such as the incredibly detailed campus map), give the site the time it deserves and fully explore its promotional gems.

Of course the website isn’t a complete gimmick; there is at least one part of the site which is fully functional (and is definitely our favourite). The official MU store boasts branded student attire available to buy (though it’s a shame the four-armed hoodie is out of stock).

Although Monsters University doesn’t open until June 21, 2013, it is never too soon to start planning for college. We have truly been tickled by the fully interactive experience and we hope it marks the beginning of what is set to be a highly successful viral marketing campaign, increasing our anticipation without resorting to a deluge of spoilers. Could this be a new craze set to sweep the world of marketing? We indeed hope so!
