Move Over Heineken The Buddy Cup Is Here

Just last week we were amazed by Heineken’s ‘Ignite’ beer bottle with LED lights that flash when sipped from, toasted with or in sync with music in a club; but already we’re seeing some fierce competition from the opposition!

Budweiser are putting up a fair fight with the introduction of their ‘Buddy Cup’. No, this isn’t just a clever play on words for the brand; they have actually unveiled a beer glass that connects to Facebook using a built-in chip! Users of the Buddy Cup will simply scan the QR code on the base of the glass using their Smartphone whilst logged in to Facebook; linking the two platforms. Then, when the cup is toasted with another Buddy Cup, the two toastees will automatically become friends on Facebook!

The introduction of the Buddy Cup aims to enhance brand activation and increase interaction between Budweiser consumers attending any of the brand’s sponsored festivals, concerts and parties.

The glass was created for Budweiser by Agencia Africa in partnership with Bolha. Sergio Gordhilo who is the cheif creative officer at Agencia Africa said: ‘Innovation is in Budweiser's DNA. Its platforms are constantly surprising consumers with the best there is in terms of premium experiences. The “Buddy Cup” is another idea bringing the brand even closer to its consumers and opening new levels of interaction for them.’

We are intrigued to see what Carlsberg come up with, after all, if Carlsberg did technology…
