Never Enough Hours In The Day Sou Vide Is Your Ticket To Convenience

Are you one of those people that comes home from work and the last thing you want to do is cook a meal? There aren’t enough hours in the day to worry about whether to have lasagne or chicken risotto; so it got us thinking... Convenience is one of the most contemporary food trends within the market and we’re seeing both retailers and wholesalers battling to satisfy consumer demands. The trend derived from the fact that consumer lifestyles are becoming increasingly more active and hard workers generally do not have the time to cook a healthy, tasty meal. By taking a quick trip down memory lane we begin to understand the difference between the working lifestyles now and what is was prior to the Second World War. With women becoming more active within the business environment, we’re beginning to see less cooking, more working. So, it’s no wonder we’ve had to say goodbye to the glamorous women of Wisteria lane.

Anyway back to the 21st century; after recently engaging with new clientMyles Ball, Director and Owner ofCreate Great, our eyes were opened to a new culinary concept that promises to reduce those post-work, lengthy cooking sessions. The company offers a full foodservice providing Sous Vide products to other business within the hospitality market; cutting out the hassle and providing quick and delicious meals. Trust me, they were delicious, we can vouch for that! So what’s Sous Vide I hear you ask? Well, it’s a culinary technique which allows chefs to cook food to perfection by using a method of cooking that maintains the integrity of ingredients; by heating a vacuum sealed bag in water at a relatively low temperature for an extended period of time.

At apt HQ we began to understand not only how consumers are behaving towards convenience but also businesses. This has led to companies like Create Great seeking new opportunities to innovate tired cooking methods, like sous vide, to react to consumer needs. It’s exciting to see such a pioneering trend emerge within a trend and we look forward to seeing how it develops.

If you’d like to know more about Sous Vide then head over to Create Great’s website.

We have also witnessed how other organisations are embracing the convenience trend and using it to fuel current campaigns; as part of Waitrose’s ’Garnish & Go’ campaign that began last week (see above) the supermarket heavyweights brought out the ‘story of the fish and the bag’.

This was then spotted by one of the apt’s staff members who pointed out the relationship it had to sous vide. The advertisement is clearly trying to attract time-constricted consumers when stating “like all simple ideas, it was borrowed; cod, butter, bag, butter, oven, voila!”. Like Waitrose and Create Great, we appreciate ease and convenience coupled with great taste and high quality ingredients so let’s hope that brands follow suit – could this be the future of cooking?
