Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the most creative of them all? How about Daniel Rozin, the creator of the first mechanical wooden mirror. Here’s a man who’s invented one of the finest pieces of modern artwork we’ve seen in recent years. Merging a contemporary use of interactive technology with his talent for creating mechanical mirrors, Daniel came up with his latest design ‘The Wooden Mirror’.
The wooden mirror featured 830 square pieces of gold-toned pine which were each wired to its own tiny servomotor. If you stand in front of it, a hidden camera will feed your image, in real time. The image is then transferred to a Macintosh, which turns you into an 830-byte video signal.
But it doesn’t stop there; the Mac then signals each motor to position its wooden pixel to reflect a specific intensity of light. This ends up in the eerie experience of seeing your real-time reflection on the wooden surface. Pretty cool stuff, huh?
The question is… What would your face look like?
