Salvation Army Use Thedress In Powerful Campaign For Domestic Violence

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you will have heard about the controversial garment going by the hashtag ‘#TheDress’ or #Dressgate’ on Twitter. Due to the use of clever lighting manipulation, the general public have been arguing over what colours it is; white & gold or black & blue.

Charity organisation, The Salvation Army has used the dress to launch a very powerful campaign to raise awareness for domestic violence. The advertisement shows a young woman lying down covered in cuts and bruises, wearing the dress in white and gold. The message reads “Why is it so hard to see black and blue” with a caption saying “The only illusion is if you think it was her choice. One in six women are victims of abuse. Stop abuse against women.”

After the furore of attention the dress has received on social media, we’re glad it’s finally being used with good intentions in collaboration with International Women’s Day on 8th March.
