Streetvelodrome Puts Experienced Riders To The Test

Last week saw a real challenge for team apt, having been tasked to source a number of experienced riders to test the first ever pop-up velodrome for our client StreetVelodrome. After a panic-stricken hour or two we realised that we had a good number of riders up for the challenge, and after speaking with some of the riders today, wasn’t it just that!

The day kicked off with a road trip to Whitchurch, Shropshire, where apt’s Chris Robins and Peter Williams witnessed the pop-up velodrome being set up; might we say that considering the scope of the velodrome, the process was quite swift and hassle free! Once the “arena” had been set up each rider was allowed to test the water, or should we say track, to work out the uniqueness of the velodrome as well as any techniques needed to get round that bend as fast as they could. It didn’t take long for the banter and jokes to begin, preparing apt for a fun and engaging day.

We then put the riders through their paces with heat after heat of races whilst the rest of the riders cheered and encouraged each other; it didn’t take the riders long to suss out the techniques and were soon hitting the bends like Sir Chris Hoy! The camera man gained some really great footage of the riders flying round the bend and jeering each other on, including some great competition for some of the ex-pro’s!

At the end of the day the top three riders were awarded with a small token of appreciation at the first ever StreetVelodrome awards ceremony.

We would like to send out a massive thank you to all the riders that supported StreetVelodrome over the weekend, including; Warick Mitchell-Gough, Mitchell Gough, Jason Shackleton, Sam Shackleton, Aaron Shackleton, Christian Collis, James Wilkinson, JJ Buchma, Sam Gay, Chris Molena, David Gostelow and Omar Hussein.

This was a great opportunity for StreetVelodrome to not only test out the ability of the pop-up structure itself, but to gain valuable feedback from people who are going to be entering the series themselves. Comments such as “It’s addictive”, “Really good fun”, “Unique” and “A great challenge” are among the feedback from the riders; most importantly they all had fun, were thoroughly enthralled and cannot wait to do it again.
