Swimming In The Deep End By Rebekah Malvern

Having just finished my second year studying for a degree in Marketing, I thought I would be fully prepared for a week at apt; but books, theories, facts and knowledge are nothing in comparison to hands-on experience. As soon as I arrived for my first day as a Marketing Intern I was told by Victoria that I was going to be thrown in at the deep end – scary stuff!

Within an hour of arriving at the offices I was emailing real bands for a real festival, Lakefest 2013. It felt great to know that what you were doing actually had an impact on an account and you had the freedom to input your own thoughts and ideas. The chance to be creative and to use your own ideas independently really came to light when I was given the opportunity to start blogging. Over the two weeks I have been at apt I have written for Compass Holidays, Lakefest and apt’s blog. I didn’t think that writing would be something that would interest me, but with the encouragement of Kalli, I have found something that I will definitely be interested in pursuing in the future. This interest for writing lead to me also dabbling in PR, helping write a press release for Global Arts, in addition to writing newsletters and articles for a range of clients.

Work experience at apt is extremely rewarding as you can see yourself what impact the work you are doing really has. Over the two weeks I have been here I have been working on editing the Hush Farms website; and the transformation from two weeks ago to today is huge. Despite already thanking apt the only way that an office of women should be thanked (with chocolate); I’d really like to thank them for giving me a great experience where I have learnt a lot of invaluable skills which I will take with me for the future and will hopefully help me in the last year of my degree and beyond.
