We all know beans are a musical fruit; we have all sung the song and suffered the smell, to the point where we’ve actually researched underpants that filter flatulence (trust us...they exist!).
However, baked bean connoisseurs, Heinz, have embraced this universal fact and found a way to deliver a melody without the awful smell. Please welcome The Heinz Beanz Flavour Experience; no longer a humble supper-time snack, but a multi-sensory bean eating extravaganza, designed and created by renowned food architects Bombas & Parr. The nation's favourite beans brand has teamed up with the dynamic foodie duo, to design ultimate flavour experiences which encompass the use of a variety of senses; sight, smell, sound and touch.
The newly debuted Heinz Beanz flavours, sold in their specially designed tins, include a customised bowl and musical spoon, supplied in a matt finished bright-coloured display box. Each bowl has been designed and textured to match each individual flavour using a variety of materials and processes. The musical spoon comes with embedded MP3 sounds, relevant to the flavour. The ‘music’ is inaudible outside the mouth and can only be heard by transmitting vibrations; the sounds waves bounce from the spoon, through the jawbone and into the eater’s ear.
These products are more than just a mouthful; only a limited number of these innovative creations will be available, but don’t all flock to your nearest supermarket at once, they are only available from Fortnum & Mason who were the first retailer to carry the brand from inception back in 1901.
So why bother? We have seen many chefs, scientists and brands encompass the use of senses to evoke mystery, enjoyment and a full-flavour experience; Soho’s edible hotel and Saffire’s chocolate Louboutins. The most famous that springs to mind is Heston Blumenthal’s inspirational series ‘Heston’s Feasts’ where he embarked on providing memorable feasts which tasted good, was inventive and most importantly fun. As Bombas & Parr commented; “...it’s not just about what we taste, but also what we see and touch; our surroundings, shape, texture and even sound, can all affect our experience and enjoyment of food”.
