The Water That Gives Us Life

We are all familiar with the story in the Bible where Jesus turned water into wine, well, The University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC) in Peru has invented the first billboard that produces drinking water out of air. Ad agency Mayo Draftfcb teamed up with the university to recreate a modern day version of the miracle after the locals spent countless years of suffering near drought conditions and limited potable water.

The capital of the South American country, Lima, is the second largest capital in the world that sits on a desert; with an annual precipitation level of a mere 0.51 inches! However, the atmospheric humidity of the region is a whopping 98%; so inspired by the statistic, the university and the ad agency created this incredible innovation.

The billboard has a unique technology that captures the moisture from the humid air and turns it into fresh drinking water (as well as capturing the attention of prospective students). The generator purifies the water through various processes to produce 20 litres of potable water at a time; it has produced a total 9,405 litres in since its introduction three months ago.

If you have the Monday blues this is definitely one that puts everything into perspective, enjoy!
