Yotel Release Guests Inner Child With Interactive Lego Wall

LEGO is one of the most recognised brands in the world, creating some of the fondest memories from people’s childhoods as well as being a guilty pleasure amongst many adults worldwide. So as you can imagine, when a 30ft long LEGO wall appears on the fourth floor of a hotel causes quite a commotion with much excitement and intrigue.

Well that’s exactly what happened last week when YOTEL, a hotel situated in the heart of Times Square in New York, launched a competition for its guests to find and release their inner creativity using LEGO pieces to build their own sculptures. Guests have until March to release their creative juices and artistic flair and there will be two very lucrative prizes on offer. YOTEL are giving away a two-night stay in a Premium Queen Cabin for the runner up, while the grand prize winner will get a three-night stay in a First Cabin with an outdoor terrace and hot tub.So far they’ve seen people stretch their imaginations with designs such as national flags, landmarks, sports team badges and musical instruments.

The New York based hotel’s digital approach has also seen them implement a social media campaign to support the competition.  Guests are encouraged to upload and share their designs among their followers on Twitter and Instagram using the designated hashtag ‘#MyLegoMasterpiece’.

If you take a step back and think, this is a very intelligent piece of interactive marketing encouraging guests to engage and interact with the brand and to ‘build something fun’ in the form of a competition. Supporting it on channels like Instagram and Twitter adds a viral edge and is a popular, contemporary and cost-effective technique. It also links in nicely with the motive behind the competition (literally) as YOTEL is currently renovating a club lounge that’s set to be unveiled on 2nd March.

So if you happen to be in Times Square staying at one of Yotel’s apartment why not roll back the years with your bricklaying skills?
